  • Casablanca Luxury holidays

Casablanca has been an evocative name since the movie was released in 1942, starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart. But as a holiday destination, the port has much more to offer than the film portrays, and is a vibrant and modern location both along its coastline and further inland in the urban areas.

    Casablanca - the White House

Casablanca's name comes from the Spanish for 'the White House', and this is not the only influence that its European neighbour to the north has had on the port city. Much of Casablanca's local cuisine has aspects of Iberia to be found within it too, while French and Far Eastern diets are also well represented on the menus of the local restaurants.

For a genuinely local dish, order a tagine. This is the name given to the distinctive tall conical cooking pots that are used to prepare the stews over long periods of time, with the shape of the lid keeping moisture in the mix so the contents do not dry out. But 'tagine' is also the name for the food itself, which could be any one of a number of variations on a traditional spiced meat and vegetable stew.

    Get clean in Casablanca

A holiday is often a time to feel cleansed and refreshed, and in Casablanca you can do that in style. The public baths here are called hammams, and are very similar in style to Turkish baths. Find them throughout the city, and the ritual is likely to be largely the same. First of all you enter a hot steam room, where you are rubbed and scrubbed down to cleanse your skin. Only after that comes the relaxation, with an intense massage to end your session and make sure you're wide awake before returning you to the city's streets.

    When should I visit Casablanca?

Casablanca is one of those destinations where the sooner you visit, the better, as there's a very good chance you will want to start planning your next trip as soon as possible. The summer months are hot, but if you want to visit Morocco without having to bear the highest temperatures, Casablanca's coastal location makes it a great option, with a gentle breeze generally blowing across the cool waves and on to the shore. Expect more rain in the winter months, but still quite mild temperatures, so there's no reason not to schedule a winter trip either.

What’s on offer on a luxury holiday?

Luxury holidays to Casablanca are all about you, and nothing else. If you want to enjoy the finest tagine the port has to offer, your luxury hotel will bring it you, and if your heart’s set on a room by the pool, they’ll arrange that too. You can expect to be provided with everything you need to have an unforgettable time on your luxury holiday. Paying a little more for a luxury package is a good move in Casablanca, and the level of service you receive is entirely up to you. Casablanca offers world-class luxury, and while you may not have ski-slopes on your doorstep, you will have access to Morocco’s incredible coastline, and that considerate, traditional attention to detail which Moroccans are known for.
